Rosemary Leaf (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a perennial herb with a distinctive fragrance. It is a native of the Mediterranean region that is now grown in many areas of the world, including North America. It is part of the mint( Laminaceae)plant family, and is a favorite herb in kitchen gardens. The Latin name Ros Marinus translates to “dew of the sea”. Rosemary was recognized as a health supportive herb* since the time of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Rosemary has a variety of active natural antioxidant constituents* including carnosol, carnosic acid and rosemarinic acid. Rosemary was considered lucky for weddings and for remembering the departed at funerals. The scent was considered helpful to support memory* and modern science is now investigating this action. The scent of rosemary is considered purifying and invigorating.* |
