Applications:Essential for proper water and blood pH balance, stomach and nerve function, sodium can be lost during periods of excessive perspiration, vomiting or diarrhea. Inorganic sodium, which is found in table salt can be detrimental if used in excess.
Sources:Processed, salty foods (such as cheeses, bacon, lunch meats, canned entrees and some soda pop) contain high amounts of sodium. Salt reduction is a good way to reduce sodium intake.
Recommendations:Like phosphorus, most of us need to reduce our sodium intake rather than boost it.
