Kelp (Fucus vesiculosus)

Definition:Technically speaking, kelp is a group of algae which grows in the parts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Its high mineral content makes it a desirable nutritive herb. It is one of the best natural sources of iodine, making it a good herbal remedy for the treatment of hypothyroidism and obesity.
Applications:Acne, adrenal insufficiencies, colitis, eczema, endocrine gland disorders, energy, fingernails, hypothyroidism, obesity and uterine disorders.
Scientific Updates:Studies conducted in Japan show a direct correlation between the consumption of algin found in kelp and the prevention of breast cancer. The ability of algin to stimulate the T-cells of the immune system is thought to be responsible for this effect. The micronutrients in kelp also enhance stamina and help to balance hormones.126 Tests have suggested that it may also have antibiotic properties.127 By boosting thyroid function, kelp may increase energy by regulating metabolism, which may help boost thermogenesis (fat burning).
